FP Database

FrontPage® 2002 comes with a very powerful feature called the FrontPage® Database Interface Wizard. This DIW allows you to easily add a database to your site.

You will be able to create a set of web pages that will allow you to connect to a database, view your data, update or edit it, even delete it. You will be able to add information to it on the fly. You can configure it so that you can add, edit, or delete the information straight through your browser over the internet by including a password protected entry page. In other words, you can create a password protected area on your site that you can go to at any time and update your site instantly without having to use FrontPage®.

Our lessons on the following pages will show you how to use the built in Database Interface Wizard (DIW) to create a "Recommended Link List". We will then create a password protected area on your site where you can go any time to update your "recommended links list" instantly.  The example could become whatever you want.  It might be a site map or it could be a reviews page - there are endless possibilities.

After going through these step by step lessons, you should be able to create something tailored to your site's needs. You will also learn the following:

  • How to add a database to your site with FrontPage®
  • How to use the FrontPage® Database Interface Wizard.
  • How to add a page with a submission form to enter the information.
  • How to add a page to display your information.
  • How to add a password protected area to your site.
  • Add pages to edit and delete the information in your database.
  • You'll learn how to hyperlink a result from the database.
  • How to edit text within your page

Note: These lessons assume the following:

  • That you are using FrontPage® 2002 or 2003 and your site is hosted on a Microsoft windows server.
  • That your web host allows and supports a MS Access database.
  • That you have some basic knowledge of using FrontPage.
