Create a New Web

To use a template you must create a new web and then edit it with your information. Sorry, you can't just apply the theme to your existing web and get the layout as well. Following these easy steps will get you started on your way to a great new site.

  1. Go to File/New/Web and choose a web template,
  2. Choose your new web template from the available web templates.
  3. To the right you will be able to name it…i.e.: C:/My Documents/My Webs/New Web
  4. Click OK and away you go.
Using a Web Template

So now you have created your new web from the template you purchased. Now the fun begins, and you get to change the content in the web template to your own. We suggest you make two webs as shown here so you don't loose all the helpful information provided in most of the templates. Here are the steps we recommend you take when you proceed with your new web.

  • Preview the web in the browser and have a look at the content and layout that is there.
  • Decide what pages you will be keeping and what pages you will be deleting and/or renaming.
  • Hint:  We actually begin our rough draft - what we want and what we don't - using pencil and paper.
  • Figure out what pages you will need to add.
  • Get all of your images together in one folder so you will be able to find them easily when you are ready for them.
  • If you have content ready to add to the template, gather it all together in one folder so you can find it quickly.
  • If you are creating New Page Templates, do one for each page layout found in the template.
  • Rename any pages to suit your needs and delete those you don't need.
  • Create and add new pages to the template by which ever technique you prefer.

Begin editing your content.

  1. To edit the content on any page, double click the page in the Folder List or open the page from the Navigation View.
  2. Highlight the existing content and paste in or type in your own content.
  3. Add your images and photos.
  4. Read through this tutorial site if you are having problems.

Save your work on a regular basis.  Preview your work often by going to File / Preview in Browser.  Publish to the Internet.
